An illustration inspired by the awesome stock of *sempiterna-stock here: [link]

If everything uploaded correctly, there should be a pack available for download with the main steps, and three different 3D versions of this picture (stereoscopic a.k.a cross-eye 3D, red-cyan anaglyph, and Nintendo 3DS format).

There's a video timelapse of the process available here: [link]

Dedicated to :icontolkienmaster: for being such a great model, muse and friend

Everything painted in Photoshop CS5. No tracing (but grid method used to sketch the model's references). About 10-20 hours overall.

Enjoy!

Thanks :) The splashing water is not a big deal, to be honest. Round tip, slightly random size and some scattering to paint it; use the same brush with the eraser (slightly smaller size and less hardness for the tip) to "remove" the inner of the drops.

One of them was textured to add some noise, but actually it barely makes a difference (in some cases it may even look worse)

How dynamic. Impact of this is beyond belief. It simply a new perspective then just a mere standing pose of a woman. This is a literal storytelling image. You feel the ambition one does in waters. Colors are not over powering but enough to keep your eye pleased by each detail ...I applaud you my  one.

Thank you so much, sweetheart! I think that, besides of the huge inspiration, I put an extra effort to not disappoint the model. I'm very proud of this work, but definitely want to keep improving a lot :)

Thanks :) Yes, as you can see in the video, it took me quite some time to realize which colors actually worked well. I usually don't find them at all

:noes:

Hmm, interesting group. Will take a look, and see if I can submit the image as is or have to upload it separately (maybe to the scraps to avoid cluttering the gallery). Thanks!

You'll have to upload it separately. You can always submit it to a group only (there is such option), it'll not go to your gallery. The way it is now very few people will see it, while id deserves to be seen.

Suggest? To favs? Submissions are judged, so if anything is not in club therms it will not pass through. But your work is very good, check the cross eyes section and judge yourself. (I have no glasses, so look only there).

Ahh, good to know. So it is possible to submit it to the group itself and still have a selection process. Makes sense :)

Very good understanding of fractured movement of water, and love the overall lighting. Kind of wish the mermaid herself was a bit more polished in execution, but I suspect you'll probably refine her as you develop your skills in time... definitely worth pursuing.

Nice work!

Yup, there's still a lot to improve, and hope this lesson is useful for the future illustrations
